課程概述
本課程以佛教思想為核心，探討其在現代社會中的意義與實踐。課程將介紹佛教基本概念，如因果、無常、慈悲、空性與修行觀念，並結合現代人的壓力、焦慮、人際關係與生命價值等議題進行討論。透過經典閱讀、電影文本、生活案例與反思書寫，引導學生思考宗教哲學如何回應當代人生困境，建立更平衡與自覺的生活態度。
This course introduces Buddhist thought and examines its relevance to contemporary life. Topics include karma, impermanence, compassion, emptiness, and spiritual practice, alongside discussions of stress, anxiety, relationships, and life values in modern society. Through Buddhist texts, films, case studies, and reflective writing, students will explore how Buddhist philosophy can respond to the challenges of modern life and foster a more balanced and mindful way of living.
授課內容
佛教做為世界五大宗教之一（耶、回、佛、印、猶），其歷史悠久，影響廣大，是不爭的事實。然而，在2500多年的傳承過程裡，佛教卻歷經多次轉化，並吸收了許多其他思想（主要是民俗信仰）而形成今日分布於亞洲大陸的形態。19世紀，英國人在殖民印度的過程中，因為研究佛教的歷史，從印度及東南亞國家發現了大量以「巴利語Pali」寫成的經典，與傳統佛教遺留下來的「梵文Sanskrit」經典有很大不同，對於了解早期佛教的狀況，例如釋迦牟尼（佛陀）的生平、其教法的主要內容、佛教的傳播與發展過程等，都有突破前人的進展。更使佛法的真實面目，得以完整的呈現於世。簡單的說：佛陀的教說，一開始並不是一種新的宗教信仰，而是一種生命智慧，指導世人如何找到苦惱的根源，走出生命的迷思與困境。千百年來，佛教雖然已經被哲理化、信仰化、神秘化，甚至與其他宗教相去不遠，但所幸有巴利文佛典的保存，我們仍然可以學習到佛法的真正精神與方法。本課程即是立基於近代以來，學術界對早期佛教研究的成果，將經典中的教說，系統化整理出來，向同學展示佛法的本來面目，希望能夠幫助大家找到對自己有益的養分，進而改變思惟，創造幸福人生！
Buddhism, as one of the world's five major religions (Jesus, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism), boasts a long history and widespread influence, an undeniable fact. However, in its more than 2,500 years of transmission, Buddhism has undergone numerous transformations, absorbing many other ideas (primarily folk beliefs) to form its current form distributed across Asia. In the 19th century, during their colonization of India, the British, in their research on Buddhist history, discovered a large number of scriptures written in Pali in India and Southeast Asian countries. These scriptures differed significantly from the Sanskrit scriptures inherited from traditional Buddhism. They represented a breakthrough in understanding early Buddhism, such as the life of Shakyamuni (Buddha), the main content of his teachings, and the spread and development of Buddhism. Furthermore, they allowed the true nature of Buddhism to be fully presented to the world. Simply put, the Buddha's teachings were not initially a new religious belief, but rather a wisdom for life, guiding people to find the root of suffering and escape life's confusion and predicaments. Over the centuries, Buddhism has been philosophicalized, mystified, and even diverged from other religions. Fortunately, the Pali Buddhist scriptures have preserved this knowledge, allowing us to still learn the true spirit and methods of Buddhism. This course builds upon the achievements of modern academic research on early Buddhism, systematically organizing the teachings from the scriptures to reveal the true nature of Buddhism to students. It aims to help everyone find nourishment beneficial to themselves, thereby changing their thinking and creating a happier life!
