課程目標

熟悉西洋建築史中各種風格式樣之名稱，及它們涉及的年代與地區，與代表性案例。2. 熟悉西洋建築史中包括的各種建築類型（如宗教建築、統治建築、軍事建築、城市與民居等等）。3. 熟悉各種風格式樣與建築類型的基本特徵，諸如空間、造型、量體、構造、結構、細部語彙等等。4. 理解西洋古代建築的式樣及語彙如何散佈世界各地，諸如台灣或亞洲其他地區。5. 理解各種風格式樣與建築類型所體現的歷史、宗教、社會、政治、經濟、技術與藝術意義。6. 理解各種風格式樣與建築類型之間的關連性，如地理上的關連性，及歷史上的關連性。 7. 瞭解西洋歷史建築或建築遺跡變成「建築文化資產」的過程，以及這個過程可能會面臨到的各種議題，諸如都市發展議題、生活環境品質議題、甚至政治議題。

課程概述

本課程的主旨在於介紹西洋建築的起源與發展，從西元前21世紀至西元19世紀，討論歐洲、近東與北非的重要神廟、教堂、陵墓、宮殿、城堡、大型宅邸與民居等等建築。在目前所有建築史研究體系中，西洋建築史是最早被建立的（19世紀歐洲），在歐洲大部分國家的學術傳統中，西洋建築史屬於藝術史（Art History）的一部分，並與考古學、與旅遊業興起有密切關係。在研習西洋建築史之前，必須先理解三個概念，何謂「西洋」？何謂「建築」？何謂「歷史」？隨著西方國家在近代的海外擴張與殖民，西洋建築的風格及語彙早已散布全球各地，幾乎在世界上的所有國家中，我們都發現西洋建築傳統所帶來的影響力。由於日本在明治維新後的西化政策，西洋建築形式大大影響了日本近現代建築的發展，因此在日治時期的台灣，也興建了許多具有西洋建築特徵的公共建築與私人宅邸。也因此，學習西洋建築史並非只是學習西洋建築的起源與發展，亦可幫助了解自己土地上之建築的形式來源。

授課內容

本課程主要以歐洲為中心介紹西洋建築的起源與發展，涵蓋的時間由西元前20世紀延續至西元19世紀，若再加上對歐洲建築文化有所影響的埃及，則其歷史可再往前追溯將近10世紀，前後橫跨的年代將近5000年之久。西洋建築史是最早被建構的建築史學體系，一般係循其時序由古希臘、古羅馬的古典建築談起，接著進入基督教初期的拜占庭建築、中世紀的仿羅馬、哥德樣式的建築，再論及受古典建築深刻影響的文藝復興、巴洛克、洛克克乃至新古典主義的建築等。本課程即依此歷史軸線進行教學進度的鋪排，除上述建築樣式的變遷之外，亦摻入各個時代、地域的社會、文化、經濟、技術等面向發展做為背景，以助於學生有整合性的認識。
This course mainly introduces the origin and development of Western architecture centered on Europe and covers the period from the 20th century BC to the 19th century AD. If Egypt, which influenced European architectural culture, is also counted in, the history of Western architecture can date back to 10 more centuries ago and spans nearly 5,000 years. The history of Western architecture is the earliest historical system of architecture to be constructed. Chronologically, it starts with the classical architecture of ancient Greece and ancient Rome, and then enters the Byzantine architecture of the early Christianity, the Romanesque and Gothic architectures in the Middle Ages, and finally the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical architecture, which were deeply influenced by the classical architecture. This course is based on this historical progress. In addition to the above-mentioned changes in architectural styles, it also introduces the social, cultural, economic, and technological developments of each era and region as the background knowledge to help students gain a comprehensive view.
