課程概述

育林學為森林學系必修科目之一，共分五篇：林木種子，林業苗圃，人工造林法，天然造林法與森林撫育，為育林學家必備之知識，並配合育林學正課內容，實務實作。 Silviculture is one of the compulsory subjects of the Department of Forestry. It is divided into five parts: tree seeds, forestry nursery, artificial afforestation method, natural afforestation method and forest tending. It is the necessary knowledge for silviculture experts.

授課內容

育林學（Silviculture）是研究如何培育、撫育、建造及更新森林的應用科學。它結合生物學、生態學與經濟學，旨在透過科學方法維持森林的健康，確保木材資源與生態功能永續發展。主要章節包含以下五個部分：林木種子： 種子的採集、挑選、處理與休眠打破。林業苗圃： 苗木的培育、基質管理、施肥、病蟲害防治及馴化。人工造林： 針對不同立地條件選擇樹種、整地、栽植技術與密度控制。天然造林： 透過保留母樹、控制林下光照等方式，促進自然更新。森林撫育： 藉由除草、修枝、疏伐等措施，改善林木生長環境、提升林相品質。另，搭配不同環境特性，教導各種造林方法,如山坡地造林、崩塌地造林、濱海造林、防風林造林、沙漠化造林及都市林規劃建造等。使修習同學學習育林學基本知識，進而應用，奠定森林建造、撫育之基礎。實驗課程將搭配上述內容提供種子採集、種子破除休眠、種苗繁殖(扦插、嫁接、壓條等)、森林土壤、介質調配、育苗、苗木出栽(馴化)、苗木撫育(除草、修枝、病蟲害防治)等。
Silviculture is the applied science that studies how to cultivate, nurture, construct, and renew forests. It combines , ecology, and economics, aiming to maintain forest health through scientific methods and ensure the sustainable development of wood resources and ecological functions. The main chapters include the following five parts: Tree Seeds: collecting, selecting, treating seeds, and breaking dormancy. Forestry Nurseries: growing seedlings, managing substrates, fertilizing, controlling pests and diseases, and acclimatization. Artificial Afforestation: selecting tree species according to different site conditions, site preparation, planting techniques, and density control. Natural Afforestation: promoting natural regeneration by keeping mother trees and controlling understorey light. Forest Tending: improving the growth environment and enhancing stand quality through weeding, pruning, thinning, and other measures. In addition, depending on various environmental characteristics, it teaches different afforestation methods, such as hillside afforestation, landslide area afforestation, coastal afforestation, windbreak forests, desertification afforestation, and urban forest planning and construction. This helps students learn the basic knowledge of silviculture, apply it, and lay the foundation for forest construction and tending.The lab course will go along with the above topics and cover things like seed collection, breaking seed dormancy, seedling propagation (cutting, grafting, layering, etc.), forest soil, substrate preparation, seedling cultivation, planting out seedlings (acclimatization), and nurturing seedlings (weeding, pruning, pest and disease control).
