授課內容包括三大部分: 1. 都市環境的社會面。 2. 都市環境的自然面。 3. 都市的永續發展。

課程概述

授課目的 都市環境學概論的教授,是希望同學能夠對都市與環境的本質,以及其影響要素有所認識。其內容包括:了解最新都市環境發展的觀念,這當中包含了各種自然環境(地形地貌、氣候土壤...等)、經濟、社會、文化、實質建設、交通、公共設施等等。更重要的是永續發展的觀念,是當前都市環境發展的主流,學習到如何使都市的實質發展與自然生態及人文社會相結合。 This course examines the relationship between theory, policy and the social construction of the urban environment. The objective of the course is to move beyond an understanding of the urban environment as simply a physical landscape or natural ecosystem that can be managed or to which people adjust. Rather, urban environments will be considered in relationship to the local – global political economy. Through developing a theoretical framework from which to analyze the power dynamics among institutions and actors we will address issues that continue to challenge urban society, including environmental injustice and racism, degradation of local environmental quality, the impact of local – global relationships on community scale environments, and the commodification of nature. This is a writing-intensive and research oriented course. Students will complete a group semester-long research project that will be based on both field work and library research. The project will be aimed at linking themes introduced in the readings to an analysis of a specific urban environmental problem that can be examined in more detail. Students will present their project orally at the end of the semester and submit a report on their project.

The students could learn to understand the interaction and communication between daily behaviors and the environment that is suitable for people's life, manufacture and learning. At the same time they get to know the problems and opportunities encountered when people interact with the environment, and explore various attitudes and methods that can develop a more harmonious relationship with the environment.
