課程目標
介由地質基本原理、地質現象、外營力與內營力地質作用及應用地質的通盤介紹，初步了解地震、地質時間概念、地殼變動與造山運動、地表抬升與消蝕、河川作用、冰河作用、邊坡運動、地下水形成與作用以及氣候變遷。 Through the general introduction to basic geological principles, geological phenomena, geological processes by external and internal forces, and applied geology, earthquakes, concept of geological time, crustal deformation and orogeny, ground uplift and erosion, fluvial processes, glaciation, slope movement, groundwater formation and processes, and climatic change will be understood by the students.

課程概述
本課程乃地質系最基本的課程，內容著重於地質基本原理、地質現象、外營力與內營力地質作用及應用地質的通盤介紹。本課程也會提供對時間尺度的必要認識以描述地球的歷史。藉由分類與分析地球上的材料，地球的組成物質將會檢核出來。地球上的自然作用與其科學性描述也將會呈現於本課程中。在本課程的最後，也嘗試去探討地球的本質與演化與太陽系內的其他行星的異同。 Geology is the essential and foundamental course in the Department of Geology. The topics introduced in geology include basic geological principles, geological phenomena, geological processes by external and internal forces, and applied geology. This course will also provide an appreciation for the magnitudes of time needed to describe the history of the Earth. It will examine the physical composition of the Earth within the context of how material of the Earth is categorized and analyzed. Physical processes and their scientific description will also be presented. Towards the end of the course, we will try to discuss the geology and evolution of the Earth relative to other planets in our solar system.
授課內容
普通地質學為一學期課程，為專業必修科目。內容著重在地球內部與地殼淺處的各項地質作用與構造，以及構成地球本體的基本物質。上課用書為英文原文。內容包括：地球的起源、地球的內部構造、大陸飄移與海洋擴張、板塊構造、礦物、岩漿與火成岩、沉積岩、變質作用，以及火山噴發。
The "General Geology" is a one-semester course, and is the professional and required subject for the students at geology. In the semester, all types of geological processes and structures in the interior and shallow crust of the Earth will be stressed, as well as the basic mass constituting the Earth. The textbook for this subject is written in English language. The content includes: the birth of Earth, the interior structure of the Earth, drifting continent and spreading seas, plate tectonics, minerals, magma and igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, metamorphism, and volcanic eruptions.
