課程概述
本課程之設計旨在讓學生瞭解統計學係提供我們一種科學方法，用以蒐集整理分析資料，進而根據所分析得出的資訊，來推論未知的世界。其主要內容包含兩大領域，一、敘述統計二、推論統計，並從實務觀點提出理論應用及質疑，培養學生思考能力及解決問題技巧，故本課程有以下教學目的：
一、奠定學習者對於統計學的重要觀念，摒除以往視統計學為一門「包含許多公式」的科學之錯誤觀念。
二、基本上，在學習統計時能對每一公式的含義、來源及用途加以瞭解，公式不但不再成為「死記」的式子，相反的應可對其作相當靈活的運用，鑒於上開之目的，本課程在有限之時間規範下學習者必須要有接受嚴謹密集課程訓練之心理準備，本課程統計目標，除了指定教材之理論與概念由老師講解傳授外，也將訓練學習者對於統計相關問題之分析與詮釋，以達教學目標。
Objectives of the Course
The objectives of this course are to offer students a certain scientific method, to collect, to sort and to analyze materials, in order to predict the unknown world of the future, applying the analyzed information. This course will cover two major fields of study, namely: Descriptive Statistics and Inferential Statistics. Some questions will be proposed to discuss the practicability of the related theories. Students are encouraged to think for themselves and build up their skills in problem solving. To be specific, the course serves the following purposes:
1. To help students build up good understanding of some important concepts in statistics and avoid misunderstanding statistics as a science which includes nothing but a bunch of formulas.
2. To help students acquaint themselves with the meaning and the origin of each formula, hence, be able to manipulate each formula freely without merely memorizing it.
Students taking this course are suggested to get ready for strict and intensive course work. Besides lectures, there will be also discussion sessions, so that students can be trained in analyzing and interpreting related statistics problems.
授課內容
在現代經濟和社會結構愈趨複雜之際，大至國家小至個人之決策行為，對資料分析之依賴日甚，僅憑經驗或常識已不足以應付千變萬化的實際事務。因此客觀分析實為非常重要的工作，尤其瞭解統計理論對一般人之重要性日漸增高。本課程之內容包括敘述統計與推論統計，課程之目的在於介紹統計觀念及各種實用統計方法以解決實際需要。

Every day, managers must make sense of the facts, or data, that business accumulate through ongoing activities. Information is acquired through arranging, summarizing, or transforming these data in some logical manner. Information, in turn, forms the basis of rational decision making.
Statistics is the science that processes and analyzes data in order to provide managers with useful information to aid in decision making. This course encompasses two branches of statistics. Descriptive statistics focus on the collection, summarization, and characterization of a set of data. Inferential statistics estimate a characteristic of a set of data, or help uncover patterns in data sets that are unlikely to occur by chance.
This course is designed to help students to familiarize how to choose appropriate statistical model on the basis of the research question, how to interoperate the analysis results, and how to demonstrate the results. There will be assignment after every class.
Students can expect to attain the following compentence from this course:
1.applying appropriate statistical model to generate useful information

1.以老師在課堂講解教材為主要方式。
2.另輔以每週由研究生帶領之統計實習課程。
評量方式
1.期中考與期末考依學校之規定辦理
2.平時成績：包含出席與上課之秩序，佔總成績之30％。其中，出席佔平時成績之70％，上課秩序佔30％。
3.期中考: 佔總分之30％。
4.期末考: 佔總分之40％。

1.無故干擾上課秩序遭糾正三次者，期末扣考。
2.點名無故三次或三次以上未到者，依學校規定期末考扣考。事假一
次扣平時成績10分，未請假者扣平時成績30分。病假二次扣平時成績5分。
3.遲到一次扣平時成績2、4或6分，視遲到程度而定
4.期中考成績全班後10%之同學，依學校之規定，需參加9小時之課後輔導。

要分組討論為求上課之效果，除了老師口頭講述之外，亦會在適當時機提出問題，以供同學思考與討論。請勇於參與討論，參與度列以平時成績之30％計算
其他需求1.請幫助自己、同學、學校及我維持乾淨舒爽的環境，下課後將垃圾帶離教室。
